Insulation For Cavity Walls (Partial Fill) Polyurethane (PUR) and Polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation products, when used in a partial fill masonry cavity wall construction, offer one of the thinnest solutions available as a result of its superior thermal performance. Just 30 mm is able to achieve a U-value of 0.35 W/m2.K (Dependent on construction). Man-made-mineral-fibre (MMMF) is susceptible to water penetration; this can have a severe affect on its thermal performance. PUR/PIR insulation products are resistant, as a result of their closed cell structure, to moisture penetration. Consequently the thermal performance of PUR/PIR insulation products should remain at its designed level for the lifetime of the building. Air movement over un-faced MMMF within a cavity wall can lead to a significant amount of heat loss. PUR/PIR insulation products are unaffected by air movement.
