TIMBER FRAME WALLS

The Egan Report “Rethinking Construction” seeks to minimise on-site labour and waste, reduce the number of defects, optimise construction costs, and speed up the whole building process. Prefabricated timber framing is seen as one way of complying with this agenda.

Insulation systems with an unbridged insulation layer are seen as best practice as they minimise repeating any linear thermal bridges and their consequences.

Some of the benefits of PUR/PIR insulation in timber frame walls:

  • No increase in stud, transport or handling costs - 89 mm studs are retained
  • Allow an empty stud for service runs etc. without compromising the depth of the insulation layer
  • There is no danger of slumping and sagging of insulation with PUR/PIR insulation
  • They amongst the most thermally efficient of all commonly available insulants
  • They are unaffected by air movement or moisture
  • They are lightweight and non-fibrous

Rigid PUR/PIR boards can provide one of the thinnest solutions to the requirements of Approved Document L1A, and can provide the optimum solution in terms of space, costs, transportation and handling.
